According to an ancient Malaysian legend, lemongrass was once considered a sacred herb. Warriors believed that if they applied it as a balm to their bodies — accompanied by a special prayer, of course — it would prevent a sword from penetrating their skin. While we are in no rush to test this impregnable “magic cloak,” we do appreciate lemongrass for the other dangers it wards off: anxiety, headaches, fever and a bad night’s sleep, to name just a few.
Aromatherapy is the modern name for using natural essential oils extracted from flowers, fruits, roots and plants to help maintain our physical and mental health. Our ancestors began using plants thousands of years ago. By watching animals, they learned that certain plants had ‘mystical’ properties.

Hibiscus - The most commonly used species of hibiscus for medicinal purposes are Hibiscus sabdariffa, commonly known as the Roselle; Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis (Bunga Raya - The national flower of M’sia), also called China rose and common hibiscus; and Hibiscus syriacus, known as the Rose of Sharon. These three shrubs are native to tropical climates, but are now grown around the world. Hibiscus is renowned for its beauty as well as its medicinal uses, and gardeners cultivate the plant for its showy flowers.
Origin of Herbs:
Neem is very common tree in Langkawi. It is a large evergreen dense tree growing some 30-40 ft tall with a girth of about 6-10 ft. The leaves of this tree are divided into numerous leaflets, each resembling a full-grown leaf. The neem tree has played in Ayurvedic medicines and agriculture since time immemorial. It is indigenous to South Asia.
